Duties

The Office of the Ombud for Financial Services Providers (FAIS Ombud) was established in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 37 of 2002 (the FAIS Act). Its objective is to consider and dispose of complaints in a procedurally fair, informal, economical, and expeditious manner and by reference to what is equitable in all circumstances. The FAIS Ombud offices are in the east of Pretoria in Gauteng.

In order to discharge its mandate, the FAIS Ombud seeks to appoint Graduate Trainees as part of the Graduate Training Programme. This is a structured programme specifically designed to produce a pipeline of competent trainee entrants to the labour market.

Duration – The duration of the programme is twelve (12) months.

Roll out of the Programme: Recommended candidates will be given an opportunity to learn under a dedicated mentor. Graduates will be assigned to the ICT Department and exposed to various competency-based training.

Requirements for Eligibility

  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology /Computer Science or equivalent qualification.
  • South African citizen with a valid South African Identity document.
  • Passion for public service and an interest/desire to work in the Financial Sector.
  • Strong academic background and high levels of integrity.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment, willingness to learn and work extra hours.
  • Energetic, self-driven and deadline driven.
  • Must be computer literate.

About The Office of the Ombud for Financial Services Providers (FAIS Ombud)

The main objective of the FAIS Ombud is to investigate and resolve complaints in terms of the FAIS Act and the Rules promulgated under the Act.

The FAIS Ombud deals with complaints submitted to the Office by a specific client against a financial services provider. “Complaint” refers to a specific complaint relating to a financial service rendered by a financial services provider or a representative of such provider to the complainant. “Client” refers to a specific person or group of persons, excluding the general public, who is or may become the subject to whom a financial service is rendered intentionally, or is the successor in title of such person or the beneficiary of such service. The complaint must relate to a financial service rendered by a financial services provider or the representative of the provider.
