Duties

Please complete the application form below and upload the necessary documents to apply to the SARB/BER trainee programme. The successful candidate(s) will be full-time employed by the SARB but will spend their first year in training at the BER in Stellenbosch (from January 2025 to December 2025). Candidates will also receive a competitive salary during the training year.

Requirements for Eligibility

Note that candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Hold an Honours or Masters degree in Economics (by January 2025) with macroeconomics as a subject at a post-graduate level
  • Be fluent in English
  • Possess excellent communication and writing skills

Interviews will take place in July and August. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to psychometric assessments, an appropriate reference check, and security clearance as part of the selection process. Suitable candidates will be selected based on the SARB’s commitment to diversifying its workforce.

About The Bureau for Economic Research(BER)

Primarily, the BER focuses on the South African macro economy and selected economic sectors. The BER monitors and forecasts economic trends, and identifies and analyses factors, both locally and internationally, that affect South African businesses.
